Nympholepsy: Word of the Day

Nympholepsy, n.

A frenzy of emotion, as for something unattainable.

The idea of winning the Mega-Lottery had the entire town swooning in nympholepsy.

How will you use nympholepsy in a sentence today?

  1. Wow!

    I thought nympholepsy meant a nymphomaniac with narcolepsy.

  2. Say what? I looked it up, you’re correct. I never heard of the word, though. At first glance, if you consider the roots —
    Nympho – A female who is affected with nymphomania;
    -lepsy – indicating a seizure or attack
    A nympho having a seizure? Or one attacking …. ????
    :-\ Sigh.

    Words are weird sometimes aren’t they?
